The group’s formation in 1981 established them as the primary musical expression of the FMLN guerilla forces throughout the civil war that lasted until 1992, and they now continue performing to honor those lost during the conflict’s numerous state-sanctioned mass civilian executions. In this paper I argue that the ensemble has utilized processes which Jason Stanyek and Benjamin Piekut term “intermundane collaborations,” or co-labor with the “deadness” of technology and the human dead in sonic realms that results in a rearrangement of temporal conceptions of agency, in this case connecting voices of the past to multiple presents and futures. I maintain that these processes sparked intense reactions to histories of violence during the war despite my not having direct connections to the events discussed. Therefore, the paper uses personal interjections to sustain my subsequent argument that through the leakage of sound and images from their original sources during the war, collective memories of death and violence can be experienced in a multi-sensory or embodied manner. After a short historical contextualization, this paper will discuss the circulation of Los Torogoces de Morazán’s music through Radio Venceremos, and will conclude by employing Diana Taylor’s work on memory and transmission to elaborate on theories of intermundane collaboration in Los Torogoces de Morazán’s song “El corrido de El Mozote.”","language":"en","license":{"name":"","short_name":"","text":null,"url":""},"keywords":[],"section":"Articles","is_remote":true,"remote_url":"https://escholarship.org/uc/item/3fj963w2","frozenauthors":[{"first_name":"Christina","middle_name":"","last_name":"Azahar","name_suffix":"","institution":"University of California, Berkeley","department":""}],"date_submitted":"2015-08-14T14:30:56+12:00","date_accepted":"2015-08-14T14:30:56+12:00","date_published":"2015-08-13T19:00:00+12:00","render_galley":null,"galleys":[{"label":"","type":"pdf","path":"https://journalpub.escholarship.org/lucero/article/53300/galley/40212/download/"}]},{"pk":39412,"title":"Proposition of an Integrative Theory of Socially-Responsible Consumption Behaviour","subtitle":null,"abstract":"This paper reviews the literature on Socially-Responsible Consumption Behaviour (SRCB) measurement and proposes a framework of SRCB, based on the Model of Goal-Directed Behaviour (MGB). First, this theoretical paper provides a conceptualization of SRCB. Second, it discusses the measurement scales developed so far for measuring SRCB. Third, it provides an MGB-based integrative framework of SRCB aimed at narrowing the attitude-behaviour and intention-behaviour gaps, frequently encountered in the literature. The analysis highlights the bi-dimensional structure – social and environmental concern – of SRCB and acknowledges its modular and evolutionary nature, contingent on the contexts in which it is intended to be measured. It therefore offers tremendous research opportunities for academic researchers and useful guidelines for marketers aiming at the exploration of consumers’ SRCB.","language":"en","license":{"name":"none","short_name":"none","text":"","url":"https://escholarship.org/terms"},"keywords":[{"word":"Socially-Responsible Consumption Behavior"},{"word":"sustainability"},{"word":"Model of Goal-Directed Behavior"},{"word":"intention-action gap"},{"word":"environment"}],"section":"Articles","is_remote":true,"remote_url":"https://escholarship.org/uc/item/6pz030h6","frozenauthors":[{"first_name":"Myriam","middle_name":"","last_name":"Ertz","name_suffix":"","institution":"University of Quebec in Montreal","department":"None"}],"date_submitted":"2015-03-08T04:03:10+13:00","date_accepted":"2015-03-08T04:03:10+13:00","date_published":"2015-08-12T13:09:17+12:00","render_galley":null,"galleys":[{"label":"","type":"pdf","path":"https://journalpub.escholarship.org/egj/article/39412/galley/29752/download/"}]},{"pk":43617,"title":"Rhabdomyolysis: An Unclear Cause","subtitle":null,"abstract":"","language":"eng","license":{"name":"","short_name":"","text":null,"url":""},"keywords":[],"section":"Article","is_remote":true,"remote_url":"https://escholarship.org/uc/item/7q7622vs","frozenauthors":[{"first_name":"Michael","middle_name":"","last_name":"Estes","name_suffix":"M.D.","institution":"University of California, Los Angeles","department":"Medicine"}],"date_submitted":null,"date_accepted":null,"date_published":"2015-08-06T15:09:36+12:00","render_galley":null,"galleys":[{"label":"PDF","type":"pdf","path":"https://journalpub.escholarship.org/ucladom_proceedings/article/43617/galley/32422/download/"}]},{"pk":9282,"title":"Sponsors and Advertising July 2015","subtitle":null,"abstract":"n/a","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0","short_name":"CC BY 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. MERS later spread to other countries in the Arabian Peninsula, followed by an outbreak in South Korea in 2015. At least 26 countries have reported MERS cases, and these numbers may increase over time. Due to international travel opportunities, all countries are at risk of imported cases of MERS, even if outbreaks do not spread globally. Therefore, it is essential for emergency department (ED) personnel to be able to rapidly assess MERS risk and take immediate actions if indicated. The Identify-Isolate-Inform (3I) tool, originally conceived for initial detection and management of Ebola virus disease patients in the ED and later adjusted for measles, can be adapted for real-time use for any emerging infectious disease. This paper reports a modification of the 3I tool for use in initial detection and management of patients under investigation for MERS. Following an assessment of epidemiologic risk factors, including travel to countries with current MERS transmission and contact with patients with confirmed MERS within 14 days, patients are risk stratified by type of exposure coupled with symptoms of fever and respiratory illness. Examining the motives that brought these figures into conflict with one another, as well as the common goals that led them to collaborate, allows us to understand from a unique perspective the complexity of the power dynamics within the Roman Curia in relationship to the Spanish Crown. More generally, the study of the difficult relationships between Peña and the Popes can become a means to unpack, or at least to begin to appreciate, the multiple and multiform identities of post-Reformation Rome, at once the heir of its ancient imperial past and a distinctively modern experiment in intellectual hegemony, the capital of the Papal state and the center of a transnational and spiritual empire of souls, the See of Peter’s successors and the theater of the world.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. The \ngarbugli\no and its variations, like the “vibrant matter” recently theorized by Jane Bennett, enmesh human and nonhuman matter in a fabric of relations so dense that no element can be subtracted from the global whole. Understanding uselessness not as a quality intrinsic to matter, but as a relationship of exteriority, this article examines iterations of uselessness—and accordingly, forms of subtraction—in Gadda: of human and nonhuman matter from larger tangles (whether linguistic, narrative, economic, or social). The stakes of these forms of subtraction, I argue, come into focus in \nLa cognizione del dolore\n in a tension between “ethics” and “charity” that demonstrates Gadda’s disillusionment with fascism—and particularly with fascist mothers who, like Volumnia of Shakespeare’s \nCoriolanus\n, would sacrifice their sons to the “ethical” imperatives of the state.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Our theoretical framework is the analysis of ideology as it is materialized in the making, wearing and representation of clothing. We study three kinds of dress in Venice: the red silks worn by wealthy merchants, the black wool and velvet worn by patrician men, and the white and gold brocades worn by noblewomen. Differences in medium, technique and scale separate Vecellio and Veronese, but they both invoke ancient history and present-day mercantilism to affirm the myth of Venice as a paragon of political order and man-made beauty. That is, the printmaker-writer and the painter share a common rhetorical purpose: through clothing, to celebrate their city as a center of textile wealth and social harmony. In spite of the contrasts between a costume book combining small woodcuts with textual commentary and a range of large portraits and allegories commissioned by patrons at the top of the social hierarchy, both men's work communicates the same matrix of beliefs, condensed into their representations of the dress worn in contemporary Venice.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Many of Sannazaro's contemporaries took issue with the fact that the moment of Annunciation was likened by the poet to a young girl fearing rape by pirates. Closer examination of other Christian epics in the period, however, along with contemporary preaching traditions and the visual arts, demonstrates that Sannazaro’s portrayal was not as heterodox as it initially appears. Indeed, when seen in this context, Sannazaro’s Mary emerges as a bolder and more independent figure than she was in previous literary and visual depictions.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. I begin by examining Isabella Andreini’s androgynous persona and the dramaturgical innovations in her pastoral play \nMirtilla \n(1588) that humorously foreground the subversion of gender norms, contextualizing Isabella’s “hermaphroditic” art as not only performative and protofeminist, but as part of the Baroque problematization of a mimetic aesthetic. The dynamic female performances Isabella features in \nMirtilla \nshowcase her trans-gender and “trans-genre” virtuosity, which, as I argue, inflects Giovan Battista’s sexually ambiguous representation of female subjectivity in his Baroque comedy \nAmor nello specchio \n(\nLove in the Mirror\n, 1622), specifically as reflected through the androgynous mirroring embodied by the play’s feminized transfigurations of Narcissus and the Hermaphrodite. In both \nMirtilla \nand \nAmor nello specchio\n, the virtuosic art of simulation epitomized in the performances of these re-figured and reconfigured female characters, written for and played by women, allows them to re-inhabit the master plots to which they refer, and through modes of mimicry and extended fetishistic play, transform the “mirror” of comedy by elevating theatre’s capacity for illusionistic metamorphosis.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. At the expense of iconic clarity, the painter whom Vasari described as “capriccioso e sofistico” appears to have created a multivalent image to accommodate both the conflicting accounts present in written sacred and hagiographic texts and to the intellectual appeal of the aporetic in the sixteenth century.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Within this context, the films \nCorbari\n (Valentino Orsini, 1970) and \n1900\n (\nNovecento\n, Bernardo Bertolucci, 1976) offer differing responses to challenges posed to the Resistance myth by the post-1968 social movements. Comparison of these two films highlights some of the difficulties facing filmmakers and the left in general in the 1970s in addressing the Resistance’s achievements, or limited outcomes. Some of the topics dealt with in this article include antifascism as a figure of national identity (reflected in the attempt of these filmmakers to provide popular epics of the partisan war) and the troubled connections between the memory of the Resistance and terrorism in the 1970s. Making use of recent work on Italian cinema and terrorism, as well as public memory and antifascism, I consider how these films address the problematic status of Resistance memory in their own time, as well as what they reveal for longer-term commemoration or memory of the partisan war.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. This essay traces the instabilities in the rhetoric of representation that govern Boccaccio’s idealized Mediterranean space, arguing that Boccaccio’s \nromanzo\n is governed by a Christianized periodization represented in the process of conversion.  Yet by utilizing the Roman pantheon as agents in the plot, this program of conversion instead reproduces the ambivalence of the sacred—at once both holy and unclean. Rather than presenting a world that is ever moving toward Christian homogeneity, Boccaccio reproduces rather than negates the instability of borders in the medieval Mediterranean.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0","short_name":"CC BY-NC 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Postbloom fruit drop of citrus in the Americas.","subtitle":null,"abstract":"Postbloom fruit drop (PFD), caused primarily by Colletotrichum acutatum, is a serious disease annually in the humid tropical citrus areas of the Americas and occurs more sporadically in the humid subtropics. The fungus infects flowers of all citrus species producing orange-brown lesions on petals that result in abscission of the fruitlets leaving the persistent calyx and floral disk attached to the twigs. C. acutatum also causes Key lime anthracnose and is morphologically identical to PFD, but the strains can be differentiated by molecular means and pathogenicity tests. C. acutatum produces abundant conidia on infected petals that are dispersed primarily by rain splash. After the bloom season, the fungus persists as appressoria on persistent calyces and other vegetative plant parts. Those appressoria are stimulated to germinate by flower extracts and produce secondary conidia to initiate a new disease cycle. Some cultural measures are useful in reducing disease severity, but control is based principally on application of fungicides. Benzimidazole fungicides and captafol were the best materials in the past but are no longer available. The QoI fungicides, folpet and tebuconazole + trifloxystrobin are the most effective among currently available materials. Forecasting systems based primarily on the availability of inoculum and recent rainfall were developed to aid growers on timing fungicide applications. The expert system, PFD-FAD, based on environmental conditions, inoculum, disease history, and varietal susceptibility is the most effective means currently available for scheduling fungicide applications.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0","short_name":"CC BY 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Responding came predominantly under (1) auditory control when conditions in TL were hedonically negative relative to those in (TL), and (2) visual control when conditions in (TL) made TL relatively positive.  Selective associations here are a product of the relative hedonic state, positive or negative, established to the auditory-visual compound.  Therefore, this constraint reflects a high level of functioning by a hedonic comparator -- with TL’s hedonic value contextually determined by the totality of the events encountered, and reinforcement contingencies, operating in its world.  The physical particulars of the reinforcer in TL here, shock avoidance, clearly were not responsible for the hedonic psychological state TL produced.  Weiss, Panlilio, and Schindler (1993a, 1993b) went on to show that these proclivities can be (1) reversed, and (2) overcome by a blocking design when the biologically-contingency-disadvantaged stimulus is first pretrained on its own.  Relating the “hedonic model” to evolution is speculative.  But, the hedonic model is scientifically integrative by relating this biological constraint to a variety of phenomena that involve incentive-motivational states.  These include choice behavior, conditioned preference, behavioral contrast and appetitive-aversive interactions.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0","short_name":"CC BY 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Traditional learning theorists choose to consider these examplesas exceptions to otherwise universal principles of learning. On the contrary, thetypical ethologist is more likely to be concerned with how specific behaviorsmay have evolved and in an animal’s species typical responses to stimuli theyare likely to encounter in their natural environment.  However, they also fail to embrace animallearning phenomena that occurs in the laboratory into their theoreticalframework.  Behavior systems represent analternative to this view by providing a link between traditional views oflearning and ethology.  Theyconceptualize experiential learning not as a set of universal principles, butas species typical processes that reflect the specific demands of the ecological niche in which the species evolved. The current paper reviews andbrings-to-date Domjan’s formulation of a sexual behavior system in maleJapanese quail.  The system includes astimulus dimension consisting of species typical cues, local cues, andcontextual cues, and a response dimension consisting of general search, focalsearch, and copulatory behavior.  Domjan’sformulation includes two diagrams that include symbols that representunconditioned and conditioned effects within the system.  Our modification of the system focuses onadditional and up-to-date conditioned effects. In general, adding conditioning to the system increases potentialstimulus and response variation, thereby increasing the flexibility of thesystem as it has evolved as a result of continued observation andexperimentation.","language":"en","license":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0","short_name":"CC BY 4.0","text":"Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
