A marker of such behavior is\nhysteresis, reflecting a multi-stable system that takes into\naccount its immediate history. The current study investigates\npatterns of hysteresis in typically developing children (TD)\nand those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).\nThe task was to grasp and lift objects that increased in size,\neither from smallest to largest, or from largest to smallest.\nThe objects could be picked up with one or two hands,\nmarking a range of bi-stable behavior. Results of the\ngrasping task showed hysteresis in TD children, whether or\nnot the task was situated in the social context. In contrast,\nchildren with ASD showed hysteresis only in the non-social\ncontext.
