Increasing evidence indicates that properties of the\nlearning input have an impact on learning this type of\nrecursion. For instance, recent studies found that staged input,\nfewer unique exemplars and unequal repetition facilitate\nlearning (e.g. Lai, Krahmer, & Sprenger, 2014; Lai &\nPoletiek, 2011, 2013). Most of these studies investigated\nlearning center-embedded recursion through visual input,\nwhereas few studies examined the processing of auditory\ninput. In the current study, we test: 1) whether participants are\nable to learn center-embedded recursive structure from\nexclusively auditory input; 2) whether the facilitative cues\n(ordering and frequency distribution) are attuned to the\nauditory modality.
