We found that children learn the\nmeanings of small numbers independently in each language,\nindicating that the delay in the acquisition of small numbers is\nmainly due to language-specific processes of mapping words\nto concepts. In contrast, the logic and procedures of counting\nare learned simultaneously in both languages, indicating that\nthese stages require the construction of numerical concepts\nthat are not stored in a language-specific format.",
