Using a confederate scripting paradigm\nwe find that after making an inference participants were more\nlikely to subsequently produce an implicature. This effect\noccurred at a global and a local level and was unaffected by\nthe perceived role of the conversational partner. Our findings\ndemonstrate that the choice of whether to be implicit is\ndetermined by the activation levels of representations specific\nto implicatures and that inference and implications have\noverlapping processing representations.",
