We report acomputational model of syntactic category acquisition that combines semantic bootstrapping with the distributional learning oflanguage. The model has access to a small set of “seed” words, with labeled categories. It then iteratively constructs syntacticframes from the seeds; sufficiently frequent frames are used to categorize non-seeded words which then contribute to theconstruction of additional frames, including frames that incorporate category information. The model is online and effective.Simulation on child-directed English corpus shows that with only 100 seed words, classification precision exceeds 70%.", "language": "eng", "license": { "name": "", "short_name": "", "text": null, "url": "" }, "keywords": [], "section": "Posters: Member Abstracts", "is_remote": true, "remote_url": "https://escholarship.org/uc/item/1nt6b9df", "frozenauthors": [ { "first_name": "John", "middle_name": "", "last_name": "Hewitt", "name_suffix": "", "institution": "University of Pennsylvania", "department": "" }, { "first_name": "Charles", "middle_name": "", "last_name": "Yang", "name_suffix": "", "institution": "University of Pennsylvania", "department": "" } ], "date_submitted": null, "date_accepted": null, "date_published": "2017-01-01T21:00:00+03:00", "render_galley": null, "galleys": [ { "label": "PDF", "type": "pdf", "path": "https://journalpub.escholarship.org/cognitivesciencesociety/article/27523/galley/17159/download/" } ] }
