This immersion benefit is\nfrequently attributed to presence, the user’s feeling of being\npresent inside the computer-generated environment.\nObtaining learning gains due to high immersion may however\nbe difficult, as is evidenced by the null results of multiple\nstudies in this area. In the current study we investigated the\nrole of presence in low- and high-immersion virtual reality\nsettings. No differences in performance in object location and\nspatial memory were found between low- and high-immersive\nconditions. Yet, when considering self-report measures of\npresence, performance improvements in the high immersive\ncondition did become apparent.
