However, this researchwas primarily aimed at determining whether and to what ex-tent speakers can develop sensitivity to MWS statistics of asingle type of linguistic input: that of spoken language. Re-cently, there has been a growing awareness of the key role ofwritten input in the development of linguistic knowledge, as itprovides a source of substantial change in the statistics of anindividual’s language experience. The present study reports ona series of experiments designed to determine whether secondlanguage learners of English are able to develop sensitivity todistributional statistics of MWS inherent in different (register-specific) input types.",
