These Inquiry skills are\ntaught In the context of acquiring knowledge of principles from a mlcroworld\nthat models a specific domain. We have Implemented microworlds for\nmicroeconomics, electricity, and light refraction. All of the systems are highly\ninteractive; students can pose questions, conduct experiments by manipulating\ndomain specific factors, and record results. Using protocol studies of expert\nand non-expert learners using these microworlds we identify important inquiry\nstrategies. W e have represented these strategies formally, allowing the\nmlcroworld to detect effective and ineffective Inquiry strategies. W e conclude\nwith a description of a partially implemented 'inquiry coach*. This coach will\nbe incorporated into the microworlds and teach the Inquiry strategies in the\ncontext of the specific mlcroworld domain knowledge.", "language": "eng", "license": { "name": "", "short_name": "", "text": null, "url": "" }, "keywords": [], "section": "Presented Papers", "is_remote": true, "remote_url": "https://escholarship.org/uc/item/0115j0ds", "frozenauthors": [ { "first_name": "Valerie", "middle_name": "", "last_name": "Shute", "name_suffix": "", "institution": "University of Pittsburgh", "department": "" }, { "first_name": "Jeffrey", "middle_name": "", "last_name": "Bonar", "name_suffix": "", "institution": "University of Pittsburgh", "department": "" } ], "date_submitted": null, "date_accepted": null, "date_published": "1986-01-02T00:00:00+06:00", "render_galley": null, "galleys": [ { "label": "PDF", "type": "pdf", "path": "https://journalpub.escholarship.org/cognitivesciencesociety/article/30491/galley/20340/download/" } ] }
