Twenty-four participants were\nasked to present a topic of their choice under three\ninstructional settings: a blackboard, paper-and-pencil, and a\ntablet. Participants’ gestures were investigated in three\ngroups: deictic gestures that point to entities,\nrepresentational gestures that present picturable aspects of\nsemantic content, and beat gestures that are speech-related\nrhythmic hand movements. The results indicated that\ngesture production of the participants was influenced by the\nmode of instruction (i.e., board, paper-and-pencil, tablet).",
